Daily Prayers for January 19

O Lord, let my soul rise up to meet you

as the day rises to meet the sun.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Come, let us sing to the Lord : let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

Song “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”

Shout with joy to the Lord : lift up your voice, rejoice, and sing!

Psalm 98:1 4

Sing to the Lord a new song: for he has done marvelous things.

With his right hand and his holy arm : has he won for himself the victory.

The Lord has made known his victory : his righteous-ness has he openly shown in the sight of the nations.

He remembers his mercy and faithfulness to the house of Israel : and all the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God.

Shout with joy to the Lord : lift up your voice, rejoice, and sing!

Genesis 12:9 – 13:1 Galatians 6:11 – 18

Shout with joy to the Lord : lift up your voice, rejoice, and sing!

Contemporary writer Madeleine L’Engle wrote, “We are all asked to do more than we can do. Every hero and heroine of the Bible does more than he would have thought it possible to do, from Gideon to Esther to Mary. Jacob, one of my favourite characters, certainly wasn’t qualified. He was a liar and a cheat; and yet he was given the extraordinary vision of angels and archangels ascending and descending a ladder which reached from earth to heaven.”

Prayers for Others

Our Father

Lord, this is the day that you have made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it, even as we know it will bring more than we can do. Amen.

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you : wherever he may send you;

may he guide you through the wilderness : protect you through the storm;

may he bring you home rejoicing : at the wonders he has shown you;

may he bring you home rejoicing : once again into our doors.
