Daily Prayers for August 7

O Lord, let my soul rise up to meet you

as the day rises to meet the sun.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Come, let us sing to the Lord : let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

Song “It Is Well with My Soul”

Teach us to trust in you, O Lord : and follow your way to the end.

Psalm 37:1 6

Do not fret yourself because of evildoers : do not be jealous of those who do wrong.

For they shall soon wither like the grass : and like the green grass fade away.

Put your trust in the Lord and do good : dwell in the land and feed on its riches.

Take delight in the Lord : and he shall give you your heart’s desire.

Commit your way to the Lord and put your trust in him : and he will bring it to pass.

He will make your righteous-ness as clear as the light : and your just dealing as the noonday.

Teach us to trust in you, O Lord : and follow your way to the end.

1 Sam-uel 15:1 – 3, 7 – 23 Matthew 26:26 – 35

Teach us to trust in you, O Lord : and follow your way to the end.

Hear these words of church father Augustine of Hippo: “Our pilgrimage on earth cannot be exempt from trial. We actually progress by means of trial. We do not know ourselves except through trial, or receive a crown except after victory.”

Prayers for Others

Our Father

Lord, we take comfort in knowing that you have shared in our trials. You know pain and betrayal, and you are familiar with suffering. Strengthen us in hard times and remind us that you have overcome the evil of this world. Amen.

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you : wherever he may send you;

may he guide you through the wilderness : protect you through the storm;

may he bring you home rejoicing : at the wonders he has shown you;

may he bring you home rejoicing : once again into our doors.
