Daily Prayers for August 19

O Lord, let my soul rise up to meet you

as the day rises to meet the sun.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Come, let us sing to the Lord : let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

Song “Sing, O Sky (Gaao Re)”

You are exalted, Lord Most High : Christ, be exalted in this humble place.

Psalm 97:5 9

The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord : at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

The heavens declare his righteous-ness : and all the -peoples see his glory.

Confounded be all who worship carved images and delight in false gods! : Bow down before him, all you gods.

Zion hears and is glad, and the cities of Judah rejoice : because of your judgments, O Lord.

For you are the Lord, most high over all the earth : you are exalted far above all gods.

You are exalted, Lord Most High : Christ, be exalted in this humble place.

1 Sam-uel 31:1 – 13 Matthew 28:11 – 20

You are exalted, Lord Most High : Christ, be exalted in this humble place.

Gregory the Great, the sixth-century monk-become-pope, said, “The dawn intimates that the night is over, but it does not yet proclaim the full light of day. Are not all of us who follow the truth in this life both daybreak and dawn? We do some things which already belong to the light, but we are not free from the remnants of darkness. It will be fully day for the church when she is no longer darkened by the shadow of sin. It will be fully day for her when she shines with the perfect brilliance of interior light. This dawn is an ongoing process. When the dawn has come, the day will retain nothing belonging to the darkness of night.”

Prayers for Others

Our Father

Thank you, Lord, for working through us despite our sinfulness. By the power of your glorious resurrection, give us grace to love sinners like ourselves. We ask this in the name of our Lord -Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen.

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you : wherever he may send you;

may he guide you through the wilderness : protect you through the storm;

may he bring you home rejoicing : at the wonders he has shown you;

may he bring you home rejoicing : once again into our doors.
