Daily Prayers for August 25

O Lord, let my soul rise up to meet you

as the day rises to meet the sun.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Come, let us bow down and bend the knee : let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

Song “Take My Life and Let It Be”

O God, you are my God : I will serve you my whole life long.

Psalm 119:49 52

Remember your word to your servant : because you have given me hope.

This is my comfort in my trouble : that your promise gives me life.

The proud have derided me cruelly : but I have not turned from your law.

When I remember your judgments of old : O Lord, I take great comfort.

O God, you are my God : I will serve you my whole life long.

2 Sam-uel 9:1 – 13 Romans 9:19 – 33

O God, you are my God : I will serve you my whole life long.

Church father and “golden-mouthed” preacher John Chrysostom said this in the fourth century: “Our spirit should be quick to reach out toward God, not only when it is engaged in meditation; at other times also, when it is carrying out its duties, caring for the needy, performing works of charity, or giving generously in the ser-vice of others. Our spirit should long for God and call him to mind, so that these works may be seasoned with the salt of God’s love, and so make a pleasing offering to the Lord of the universe.”

Prayers for Others

Our Father

God, help us to show kindness and unrivaled hospitality as the natural extension of our commitment to you. Use us to bring hope and comfort to the abandoned and forsaken corners of your creation. Amen.

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you : wherever he may send you;

may he guide you through the wilderness : protect you through the storm;

may he bring you home rejoicing : at the wonders he has shown you;

may he bring you home rejoicing : once again into our doors.
