Daily Prayers for October 2

O Lord, let my soul rise up to meet you

as the day rises to meet the sun.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Come, let us bow down and bend the knee : let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

Song “The Kingdom of God”

Give justice, Lord, to the orphan : and free us from terror’s power.

Psalm 10:12 19

Rise up, O Lord; lift up your hand, O God : do not forget the afflicted.

Why should the wicked revile God? : why should they say in their heart, “You do not care”?

Surely, you behold trouble and misery : you see it and take it into your own hand.

The helpless commit themselves to you : for you are the helper of orphans.

Break the power of the wicked and evil : search out their wickedness until you find none.

The Lord is King for ever and ever : the ungodly shall perish from his land.

The Lord will hear the desire of the humble : you will strengthen their heart and your ears shall hear;

to give justice to the orphan and oppressed : so that mere mortals may strike terror no more.

Give justice, Lord, to the orphan : and free us from terror’s power.

Jeremiah 36:1 – 10 James 1:16 – 27

Give justice, Lord, to the orphan : and free us from terror’s power.

Ignacio Ellacuria, a Jesuit martyr of San Salvador, asked, “What is it to be a companion of -Jesus today? It is to engage, under the standard of the cross, in the crucial struggle of our time: the struggle for faith and that struggle for justice which it includes.”

Prayers for Others

Our Father

Lord, enable us to live so that others can truly say, “They engaged in the crucial struggle of our time.” Amen.

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you : wherever he may send you;

may he guide you through the wilderness : protect you through the storm;

may he bring you home rejoicing : at the wonders he has shown you;

may he bring you home rejoicing : once again into our doors.
